Overview

The Foundation for Allied Dental Education is pleased to offer the OAP program.  For the RDA who may be working in an orthodontic office or general practice, the OAP is a 55 hour program (depending on licensure status) offered over two weekends and includes approximately 24 – 32 hours of clinical competency and skills development in your dental office.

Our program offers RDA’s an affordable opportunity to complete the education and qualify for a permit to perform procedures such as:

  • preparing teeth for orthodontic bonding materials

  • select, preposition and cure orthodontic brackets

  • remove orthodontic brackets and attachments

  • size, fit and cement orthodontic bands

  • remove excess cement from teeth using an ultrasonic scaler

Clinical requirements for hours and clinical procedures to be performed on patients shall be done so in the dental office during the weeks following completion of all lecture and lab assignments.

Requirements

All participants must provide evidence of the following: 

  • Current Basic Life Support “BLS” card

  • Active Dental Board of California issued Registered Dental Assistant License 

  • Copy of Board-approved 8-Hour Infection Control certification

  • Copy of Board-approved 2-Hour Dental Practice Act certification

Please prepare to bring copies of all the above.

Curriculum

The course participant will be completing the didactic instruction and examination portion of the course online prior to completing the laboratory and clinical requirements of the course on our campus. Course participants will receive an email invite to participate in the course via our LMS (Absorb), two weeks prior to the scheduled course. Participants will not be able to attend the course if the LMS requirements are not completed.

Course Materials

Course tuition includes materials and training equipment usage needed for completion of the requirements. Participants will be required to bring their own PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for use during the lab and simulated-lab sections of the course. The recommended PPE is as follows:

One (1) disposable isolation gown or knee-length disposable lab jacket-long sleeved, cuffed, snap front or tie back (no reusable, washable jackets or gowns)

Three (3) pair medical examination gloves in appropriate size

Two (2) disposable face masks (cone or earloop)

In the event participant does not bring their own PPE, a materials kit will be required to purchase for $10.

What You Will Need

  • Satisfy prerequisites of course detailed in the “Requirements” section

    • Must show evidence of active Dental Board of California issued Registered Dental Assistant License 

    • Must show evidence of (copy) current Basic Life Support “BLS” certification

  • Laptop/Desktop with internet access to complete online portion of course (LMS; Absorb)

    • Students must complete the online portion prior to the laboratory and clinical studies

  • Scrub/Clinical Staff Attire 

  • Personal Protective Equipment

REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY:

There are NO refunds for cancelled or missed events, workshops, tutoring sessions or courses - no exceptions.

Requests to reschedule an upcoming date must be submitted no less than 15 days prior to the original event start date; any request received 15 days or less prior to the event will be denied - no exceptions.

Upon approval, the registrant must select a new course date within a six (6) month time frame of the original course date.

Only one course/registration reschedule will be allowed.
