Overview

An unlicensed dental assistant is required by the State of California to take an 8-hour course in Infection Control and a 2-hour course in Dental Practice Act within 120 days of employment in a dental office. The Foundation’s course is board-approved and fully meet the State requirements.

Requirements

All participants must provide certificate evidence of the following courses:

  • Board-Approved 2-Hour Dental Practice Act course

  • Current Basic Life Support “BLS” card

Please bring a copy of your certification card with you on the day of the course. This copy is needed before a Certification of Completion can be issued.

Curriculum

The course participant will be completing the didactic instruction and examination portion of the course online prior to completing the laboratory and written examination of the course on our campus. Course participants will receive an email invite to participate in the course via our LMS, Absorb. Upon completion of the online course, there is a certificate that is generated. The course participant will be responsible for printing the certificate and bringing it to the course. The participant will not be able to attend the course if the LMS requirements are not completed. Upon completion of the LMS, FADE will provide the registrant a time for the 4-hour lab on the scheduled course date.

Course Materials

Course tuition includes materials and training equipment usage needed for completion of the requirements. Participants will be required to bring their own PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for use during the lab and simulated-lab sections of the course.  The recommended PPE is as follows:

One (1) reusable isolation gown or one (1) knee-length disposable lab jacket - long sleeved, cuffed, snap front or tie back (no reusable, washable jackets or gowns)

Three (3) pair medical examination gloves in appropriate size

One (1) disposable face masks (cone or earloop)

In the event participant does not bring their own PPE, a materials kit will be required to purchase for $10.

In order to meet legal requirements to work/volunteer in a dental office as an unlicensed dental assistant, an approved 8-hour certification course that meets the Dental Board's requirements must be completed. This course is offered by the Institute using a hybrid learning model, combining didactic instruction via online learning with a completed assessment and on-campus lab activities to earn certification.
